Course Description:

Advanced Studio will focus on the development and enrichment of self-designed projects, concepts, and ideas within an identified studio environment. This course will require constant production (pre and post) on the project(s) you have elected to pursue. Qualified explanation of aesthetics, representation of final image/object, and the development of consistent codes within a visual language will be addressed on a weekly basis. This is an advanced course with an emphasis on deadlines, technical competencies, written/verbal skills, and professionalism. All criteria are expected to be met to further hone skill sets, conceptual foundations, and demonstrate respect for yourself and colleagues.

FIRST PROJECT

Welcome to PH 304 Advanced Studio.
Please establish your personal blog/website that will be dedicated to this course prior to class two. Your site will be updated weekly with your media, writings, links, and whatever else you feel is an accurate reflection of your work, working methods, and production resources. As an on-going assignment throughout the duration of the semester, you will be required to post artists and influences (see below) in addition to your on-going studio production.

Weekly breakdown of what you need to put on your blog:
- You must post images by 3 lens-based artists that support/illustrate your work and include the
URL, image(s), and a synopsis (one paragraph) for each author

and

- You must post images by 3 non-lens-based artists that support/illustrate your work and include the
URL, image(s), and a synopsis (one paragraph) for each author

and

- Post one informal paragraph reflecting on your work.

At the conclusion of this semester, you should have a total of 36 lens-based artists, 36 non lens-based artists, twelve paragraphs of evolving reflections on your work, and one statement of intent.

Please send me your link prior to next class.

If you have any questions or would like recommendations for free sites where you can create a blog, please feel free to contact me.

Best,

Thomas.
