Course Description:

Advanced Studio will focus on the development and enrichment of self-designed projects, concepts, and ideas within an identified studio environment. This course will require constant production (pre and post) on the project(s) you have elected to pursue. Qualified explanation of aesthetics, representation of final image/object, and the development of consistent codes within a visual language will be addressed on a weekly basis. This is an advanced course with an emphasis on deadlines, technical competencies, written/verbal skills, and professionalism. All criteria are expected to be met to further hone skill sets, conceptual foundations, and demonstrate respect for yourself and colleagues.

Objective

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

The objective is to expand one’s working knowledge of the studio production, multi and interdisiplanarity as well as the contemporary artists that have shaped this evolving lexicon. A successful understanding of one's personal production of work, ability to acquire needed resources for the successful execution of a project as well as the development of strong project management skills will be required. Through research, students will be responsible for the development and implementation of cultural, political, and personal positions within a contemporary interface. These skills will be developed through independent research conducted on authors, genres, movements, techniques, and technologies, as well as the evolution of these aggregate systems to form the unification of lens-based media, as we know it today. This course will provide you with the opportunity to hone production skills, fully invest and exploit personal practices, develop creative solutions to abstract assignments and allow for the possible chance of project failure. Experimentation and qualified risks are strongly encouraged throughout this class, however, all efforts must be clearly demonstrated as grade assessment is based upon not only upon the success of your project but the logistics implemented to achieve this body of work.
